HISTORY

Leslie Dobell started working for Fred Wainwright's painting and decorating company in the early sixties with his son Peter soon joining them.

In 1962 Fred died suddenly and it was left to Leslie and Peter to wind up the business. However, they soon decided that they would continue trading as L. Dobell & Sons.

Peter’s younger brother Martin joined the business in 1969 and they continued working as a trio for some years.

In 1971 Leslie Dobell opened a high street paint and wallpaper shop called Bargain Decor in Worksop, followed by a Retford Branch in 1984.
The Worksop shop traded for 21 years and the Retford shop closed in 1990.

Leslie retired in 1991, with Martin then taking over the running of the business.

In 1995 Martin’s son Paul joined the business. More recently, Peter retired from the business and as Martin approaches his own retirement, Paul is taking over the running of the business, taking it into the third generation of the Dobell Family.
